DPWH FINISHES ALBUERA SEAWALL PROJECT IN LEYTE

The completion of a seawall project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now protects lives and properties in Sitio Lawis, Barangay Tabgas, Albuera, Leyte.

Based on a report submitted to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan by DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar Tabacon, the completed P28.9-million project funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) is a 135-meter seawall that reinforces stability to prevent coastal erosion while shielding the inland area against the abrupt rising of water.

“The completed P28.9-million project is a 135-meter seawall that reinforces stability to prevent coastal erosion while shielding the inland area against the abrupt rising of water.”

“The construction of a seawall is deemed essential, especially for the residents of Sitio Lawis, who are being compelled to vacate their homes to ensure their safety from the possible harm caused by strong waves during the onslaught of typhoons,” Bonoan explained.

Implemented by the DPWH Leyte 4th District Engineering Office, the project was completed in July 2023 and has since improved the community’s daily living conditions by safeguarding homes and livelihood resources that mainly include farming.
