In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas vision for resilient and sustainable infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the Barren River Flood Control project in Barangay Malama, Conner, Apayao, securing homes, farmlands, and vital infrastructure from recurring flood damage.
In his report to Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH CAR Director Khadaffy Tanggol said that the project included the construction of concrete revetments, gabion spur dikes, and sheet piles as part of a comprehensive flood control strategy.
“The completion of this project was necessary due to the recurring floods brought by the Barren River.”
“The completion of this project was necessary due to the recurring floods brought by the Barren River, which often overflowed and caused destruction to farmlands, homes, and infrastructure in Malama,” Tanggol added.
This initiative supports the President’s Bagong Pilipinas vision by promoting resilient infrastructure that enhances community safety and well-being in disaster-prone areas.
Implemented by the Apayao First District Engineering Office, the P98-million project was funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
