DPWH FINISHES CALBAYOG CITY ROAD PROJECTS

A newly constructed road and slope protection structure implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now offer locals in Calbayog City ease and safer movement of people, goods, and services.

“Residents of Barangay Roxas I and Barangay Lilbertad in Calbayog City are reaping the benefits of a 350-meter road constructed to link the two barangays and hasten the delivery of farm produce such as copra and rice to nearby market centers,” DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar Tabacon said.

Based on a report submitted by Tabacon, the project involves the construction of a portland concrete cement pavement spanning a width of five (5) meters and a 175-meter open drainage that will support irrigation at nearby rice fields.

The 612-meter slope protection structure along the San Isidro-San Juanico Bridge Section of Daang Maharlika in Barangay Marcatubig, Calbayog City now safeguards daily road users from falling on deep slopes and accidents brought by abrupt soil collapse.

The project involves the construction of two slope protection structures covering each side of the road, the left side being 43 meters long and three meters high, while the right side has varied dimensions ranging a height of 9 to 12 meters due to uneven terrain with a total length of 158 meters.

Also included in the scope of works is 612 meters of road shouldering and installation of 30 solar LED lights to improve visibility and ensure safe travel at any time of day.

Implemented by DPWH-Samar 1st District Engineering Office, the projects were funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) with total costs of P9.89 and P32.8 million, respectively.
