DPWH FINISHES ILOILO FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT

Low-lying communities along the Jalaur River in the municipality of Calinog, Iloilo now benefit from a recently constructed flood control project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Nerie Bueno, the 290-linear meter project brings relief to residents of Barangay Delgado who are usually affected by severe flooding due to sudden water rise during heavy rains.

“Its design serves as a catch basin for mountain water and is resilient to sudden floods.”

“Built in the amount of P34.3 million, its design serves as a catch basin for mountain water and is resilient to sudden floods,” Bueno said.

Other than protecting lives and properties, the project will also mitigate soil erosion and other damages caused by rapid overflow.

The flood control structure is one of the projects undertaken by DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office to ensure the safety and well-being of local communities in Iloilo province.
