DPWH FINISHES ILOILO TOWN FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a new flood control structure along Jaro-Aganan River to protect agri-communities in Alimodian, Iloilo from flood related hazards.

Built at the downstream of Aganan River in Barangay Poblacion, the project involves the construction of 711-lineal meter reinforced concrete revetment wall for the mitigation of flash floods and river bank erosion caused by rising water levels during heavy rains.

“The structure will prevent the national road and the Aganan Bridge from being damaged due to flood water.”

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno explained that the structure will prevent the national road and the Aganan Bridge from being damaged due to flood water, ensuring unhampered flow of transportation and delivery of basic goods and services.

“The town of Alimodian relies mostly on crop and livestock farming. With the new revetment wall, the livelihood of local communities will be safe,” Bueno explained.

The project which costs P96.49 million was implemented by the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office.
