The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Romblon has successfully completed the construction of a seawall that will protect the coastal community in Barangay Calabasahan, Concepcion, Romblon.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald Pacanan said that the P19.5 million seawall project was delivered to completion by DPWH Romblon District Engineering Office District Engineer Elena Castilan for the protection of the community from storm surges, sea wave actions, and soil erosion, which may cause damage to lives, properties and livelihood, especially during severe weather condition.

“The P19.5 million seawall project is for the protection of the community from storm surges, sea wave actions, and soil erosion, which may cause damage to lives, properties and livelihood, especially during severe weather conditions.”

The completed seawall which spans 228 meters and stands 4 meters tall was constructed when the old seawall structure could no longer protect the area from the waves.

“The construction of the new seawall in Barangay Calabasahan is in line with the Department’s commitment to ensure the safety of the locals through quality infrastructure facilities,” Pacanan explained.

The project was implemented in the span of nine months.
