DPWH INSPECTS 1,350 QUAKE-HIT INFRA IN CAR, ILOCOS

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was able to conduct a rapid assessment of the initial 1,350 affected structures in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Region, following an earthquake that jolted Luzon.

Citing a report from the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that the inspected structures are composed of 621 national bridges, 23 government hospitals, 275 public school buildings, and 417 other public buildings, and 18 other structures.

Of the 1,350 assessed structures, eight have been restricted in CAR while nine were restricted in Region 1. Two structures in CAR and another two in Region 1 are currently restricted.

Building officials and city/municipal engineers were also ordered to conduct their own assessments on both public and private buildings.

A separate report will be submitted to the DPWH through the National Building Code Development Office (NBCDO).

The partial cost of damage to roads, bridges, and flood-control structures has reached P474.1M in CAR, P119.5M in Region 1, and P3.1M in Region 2.

According to Bonoan, the partial cost of damage to roads, bridges, and flood-control structures has reached P596.7 Million (M) with P474.1M in CAR, P119.5M in Region 1, and P3.1M in Region 2. Reported costs of damages are subject to field validation.

Meanwhile, DPWH Quick Response Teams are still working on clearing and reopening the remaining three national roads that are closed to traffic namely: Baguio – Bontoc Road K0347+090 – K0347+180 section Mt. Data Cliff, Bauko, Mt. Province due to soil collapse; Mt. Province Boundary – Calanan – Pinukpuk – Abbut Road, K0428+000, Basao, Tinglayan, Kalinga due to soil collapse; and Tagudin – Cervantes Road K0353+100, K0353+500 sections in Ilocos Sur due to landslide and rockslide.

Motorists are also advised on road sections that are only passable to light vehicles for safety reasons including: Tagudin – Cervantes Road, Itogon Bridge, K0267+519, Benguet; Abra – Ilocos Norte Road, K0411+234-K0412+081, Calaba Bridge, Calaba, Bangued, Abra; Rosario – Pugo Road, San Luis Bridge 2, K0220+759 in La Union; and the Dagupan-Bonuan-San Fabian-Road K0380+058 – K0380+182, Dawel Bridge in Pangasinan.
