DPWH: NEW ROADS TO BOOST ILOCOS NORTE ECO-TOURISM

The development of transport infrastructure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has made local tourism destinations in Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte more accessible.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan said that the construction of the 3.9-kilometer Sta. Maria – Datag – Arapang – San Isidro Barangay Road in Barangay Kalaw, Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte will facilitate safer and faster access to local tourist spots such as Bolo River Dam, Ar-aroo Picnic Grove and Darna Falls.

“We are also optimistic that this new road will bolster additional livelihood services and improve mobility of goods and services.”

According to DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineer Glenn Miguel, the concrete road has reduced travel time from Barangay Kalaw to the town proper from 30 to 10 minutes.

The project involved concreting of a two-lane road amounting to P96.5-million funded under 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
