DPWH TO FIX SLOPED ELLIPTICAL ROAD INNER LANES AND PREVENT FLOODS – MMDA

The Elliptical Road in Quezon City will be repaired to fix its sloped lanes that cause flooding in the area, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced.

In a recent press briefing in Makati City, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has volunteered to repair starting July 26 the sloped inner lanes–from lane 4 to lane 8 — of the 10-lane Elliptical Road.

Garcia thanked the DPWH for its willingness to fix the sloped inner lanes of the Elliptical Road.

“The inner lanes will be levelled off. “

Ito elevation niyan, ang gagawin, ipapantay na yung gitna. Yang gitna na yan, lima (With regards to its elevation, what will happen, the inner lanes will be levelled off. The inner lanes consist of five lanes),” Garcia said.

The MMDA official said only small portions of the Elliptical Road will be closed at a time and repairs will only be made during weekends to prevent traffic slowdown in the area.

“Isasara yung isang lane tuwing Friday ng 11 p.m. and they’ll make sure na by Monday, 5 a.m., bukas na ulit (One lane will be closed during Fridays at 11 p.m. and they’ll make sure that by Monday at 5 a.m., that lane will be open),” he said.

“It may take up to a year before its completion.”

Garcia added that because of the project’s broken construction schedule, it may take up to a year before it is completed.

The Elliptical Road is a 2-kilometer roundabout in Quezon City which confines the Quezon Memorial Circle park grounds.

A Metro Rail Transit 7 (MRT-7) station, to be located in the memorial circle, is currently under construction by its concessionaire San Miguel Corporation MRT-7 Inc.
