DTI Pushes for the Establishment of Guidelines for Clean Air Act – PASCUA

In compliance with Republic Act 8749 or the Philippine Clean Air Act, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is currently working on the guidelines for the National Motor Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Program (NMVIMP).

A Technical Working Group (TWG) composed of representatives from relevant government agencies, environment groups, and the automotive industry has been created to be at the forefront of the drafting of the said guidelines.

“DTI is working on the guidelines to give consumers access to a healthy environment and safe vehicles.” says DTI-Consumer Protection Group (CPG) Undersecretary Teodoro C. Pascua

The procedural guidelines for the NMVIMP intend to substantially reduce harmful emissions from motor vehicles, and to promote efficient and safe operation. Once approved and implemented, the NMVIMP is expected to contribute in addressing air pollution.

“We commend the DTI for leading this endeavor. Implementing Section 21(d) of the law will pave the way for a National Motor Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance Program (NMVIMP) to ensure that all motor vehicles are efficient and are safe to operate,” says Mr. Leo Olarte, President of Clean Air Philippines Movement, Inc.
