EASTERN SAMAR USES SPORTS TO FIGHT DRUG ABUSE

In unity and sportsmanship, the Eastern Samar Basketball and Volleyball League (ESBVL) Season 5 kicked off with a grand opening ceremony drawing participants and spectators from all 21 municipalities and 1 city of Eastern Samar at Borongan City Town Plaza, Eastern Samar.

This event serves as the province’s dedication in advocating against substance abuse among the youth while promoting athletics.

The ceremony began with a parade led by Board Members Ralph Vincent “RV” Evardone, Miles Tiu and Atty. Phillip “PJ” Evardone Jr., along with the participants who marched from Baybay Boulevard to Borongan City Town Plaza.

The program officially started with Vice Governor Maricar Sison-Goteesan’s opening remarks, highlighting the importance of sports as a tool for battling drug abuse.

Following the Vice Governor’s address, the Mutya ng ESBVL S5 proper started, featuring muses, representing each participating municipality.

The pageant added a touch of glamour to the proceedings while also promoting the tourism sites and delicacies that they are most proud of in their municipalities. 

BM RV Evardone’s brief message ignited excitement among participants, expressing gratitude to all involved and emphasizing the significance of the ESBVL in fostering community solidarity and youth empowerment.

Meanwhile, PNP Regional Director PBGen. Reynaldo Pawid commended Governor Ben Evardone for his leadership in the “Bola Kontra Droga” program, which aims to keep the youth away from illegal substances. 

Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda of Borongan City echoed this sentiment, praising the program’s positive impact on the community and emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing societal challenges.

“I commend the province’s tagline, ‘Aton Probinsya, Tawo Iton Una’ as I urge young people to prioritize sports and stay away from illegal substances.”

PDEA Regional Director Atty. Jacquelyn De Guzman speech commended the province’s tagline, “Aton Probinsya, Tawo Iton Una,” urging young people to prioritize sports and stay away from illegal substances. De Guzman’s message underscored the role of sports in promoting positive values and behaviors among the youth.

Meanwhile, the governor started his speech by thanking each and everyone who participated, especially Cong. Erwin Tulfo who accepted the invitation despite his busy schedule.

In his speech, he emphasized the continuous support that the “Bola Kontra Droga” program has been receiving in campaigning against illegal drugs.

Evardone also added that Tulfo will be giving P10,000 to all the participating municipalities.
