EXPANSION OF PMMA ADMISSION GET HOUSE PANEL OK

The House Committee on Higher and Technical Education chaired by Baguio City Representative Mark Go approved the consolidated measures that would allow aspiring cadets from far flung-areas a chance to fulfill their dreams of becoming merchant marine and naval officers.

House Bill 2458 authored by Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Rep, Rufus Rodriguez and HB 4835 by Pangasinan 6th District Representative Marlyn Primicias-Agabas would mandate the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) to select one cadet from each congressional district every year to comprise its incoming class.

Relatedly, the panel approved the creation of a technical working group (TWG) to address the issues and concerns and reflect the proposed changes to HB 953 by MARINO Party-list Representative Sandro Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, the panel approved, including its committee report, HB 152 by Albay 3rd District Representative Fernando Cabredo. The measure would establish the Bicol University-College of Veterinary Medicine in Ligao City, Albay.

Also approved during the hearing was HB 4487 and its corresponding committee report.

The bill by Representative Isidro Lumayag seeks to create a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) district office in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
