FIRE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN SHOULD BE DONE ALL YEAR-ROUND – DELA ROSA

The Bureau of Fire Protection in Region 11 (BFP-11) and former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Bato dela Rosa led the kickoff of this year’s Fire Prevention Month in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Dela Rosa said the selection of Davao del Sur as venue for the kick off Fire Prevention Month in the region was timely because Digos City and the Davao Occidental towns of Malalag and Malita usually register high cases of fire incidents during this period.

“The selection of Davao del Sur to kick off Fire Prevention Month in the region was timely.”

Dela Rosa said the fire prevention campaign should be done throughout the year and not only during March, as he underscored the importance of raising public awareness to prevent fires.

Fire Senior Supt. Fred Trajeras, BFP-11 director, noted that it was the first time BFP-11 agency to launch Fire Prevention Month outside Davao City.

Trajeras said the aim of the BFP during Fire Prevention Month is to “inform the public that their participation is essential”.

Trajeras voiced concern that since January, there were already 199 fire incidents recorded in Region 11. He added that there were 760 fire incidents in 2017. The number of incidents dropped to 177 in 2018.

With the current number of incidents, Trajeras is worried that there will be more fire incidents to surpass the 2017 figures.

“We need to have proactive measures to prevent the further increase in fire incidents,” Trajeras said.
