FLORES LAUDS INDONESIA FOR SHOWING VELOSO GOODWILL

House Foreign Affairs Committee Member and Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Keith Flores said the Filipino people “are not forgetful about matters involving “utang ng loob” and goodwill like the kind generated by the release of Mary Jane Veloso.

Flores said, “the goodwill Indonesia sowed today because of the transfer of custody to the Philippines to be granted to Mary Jane Veloso will be long remembered and is profoundly appreciated. With the transfer, she will be spared the death penalty.”

“With the transfer, she will be spared the death penalty.”

The legislator stated that this is one time when patient diplomacy spanning 15 years worked favorably for Mary Jane Veloso.

“But there are many more Filipinos overseas who are on death row and legal debacles. The work to save them continues.”

“This is a victory for her family, our country, and for Indonesia. Let us savor this while it lasts. But there are many more Filipinos overseas who are on death row and legal debacles. The work to save them continues,” the lawmaker added.

He said, “that work must include creating more jobs and better livelihood here, so Filipinos are not forced to risk their lives and personal safety overseas.”

“We must root out and burn to the ground, the syndicates which prey upon people like Mary Jane Veloso,” Flores concluded.
