Students hailing from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) will soon be prioritized as beneficiaries of the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), Senate President Win Gatchalian assured.
The Senate recently ratified the bicameral conference committee report on Senate Bill No. 1894 and House Bill No. 8476, which seek to amend and strengthen the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (Republic Act No. 10931).
The law established the TES program, which helps students cover education-related expenses such as books, transportation, lodging, internet access, and other incidental costs. Gatchalian is a co-author of the ratified measure.
To be prioritized as TES beneficiaries, enrolled students from the most updated list of 4Ps households should be enrolled in any higher education institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) or any technical-vocational institution registered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The remaining slots shall be awarded to poor students based on the ranking of their households per capita income.
