Four Magna Cum Laude graduates of Saint Mary’s University (SMU) paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Governor in recognition of their exceptional academic achievement.
The honorees were Muhammed Sawit Al-batesh, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS), from Villaverde; Mary Jemille Culanag, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), from Solano; Janette Mae Escaros, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd); and Sheena Cabanatuan, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd), also from Solano.
Governor Jose “Papa Jing” Gambito warmly congratulated the graduates for attaining the distinction of Magna Cum Laude, commending their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to academic excellence.
“There will be disappointments in life. Overcome them. That is where you learn.”
During the courtesy call, Gambito also asked the graduates about their future plans and shared words of encouragement as they prepare to begin their professional careers.

Also present during the visit was Sherween Jerry Paul Saquing, SMU Promotions and Information Officer, who expressed the university’s interest in strengthening future partnerships with the Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya to further enhance educational opportunities and learning experiences for students.
In addition to the four Magna Cum Laude graduates, Saint Mary’s University will recognize a total of 220 academic awardees during its July 2026 commencement exercises.
These include 79 Cum Laude graduates and 137 students who earned Academic Distinction, reflecting the university’s continued commitment to academic excellence and the remarkable achievements of Novo Vizcayano students.
Gambito expressed confidence that the graduates will become future leaders and professionals who will uphold the values of excellence, integrity, and service, bringing pride and honor to Nueva Vizcaya wherever their careers may lead.
