GATCHALIAN: IMPLEMENT LIGTAS PINOY ACT NOW

As Typhoon Inday impacts parts of the country, Senate President Win Gatchalian is urging heightened preparedness and vigilance among communities, while reiterating the need for the full implementation of the Ligtas Pinoy Act to ensure safer and more resilient evacuation systems.

Gatchalian stressed the importance of early preparation and called on local government units to activate contingency measures, preposition relief goods, and ensure the readiness of evacuation centers.

“Dapat maging maagap ang ating pagkilos upang maiwasan ang mas malaking pinsala.”

“Mahalagang paigtingin natin ang ating paghahanda at tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng bawat pamilya. Dapat maging maagap ang ating pagkilos upang maiwasan ang mas malaking pinsala,” the veteran legislator said.

The seasoned lawmaker emphasized that beyond immediate response, the country must institutionalize long-term solutions through the Ligtas Pinoy Act, which mandates the establishment of dedicated evacuation centers in every city and municipality.

“Sa tuwing may sakuna paulit-ulit na suliranin ng mga apektadong pamilya ang paghahanap ng ligtas na matutuluyan dahil nasisira ang kanilang mga tahanan.”

“Sa tuwing may sakuna paulit-ulit na suliranin ng mga apektadong pamilya ang paghahanap ng ligtas na matutuluyan dahil nasisira ang kanilang mga tahanan,” the senator added, noting that P3.745 billion has been allocated under the 2026 national budget for the construction of evacuation centers.

Under the Ligtas Pinoy Act, which he co-authored, evacuation centers must be built to withstand up to 300-kilometer-per-hour typhoon winds.
