HOUSE HOSTS ‘BUILD, BETTER, MORE’ PHOTO EXHIBIT

For legislators to better appreciate the administration’s infrastructure development program, the House Committees on Flagship Programs and Projects and Public Works and Highways in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), jointly organized a photo exhibit at the South Wing Lobby of the House of Representatives showcasing the Build, Better, More (BBM) Flagship Programs And Projects currently being implemented.


Committee on Flagship Programs and Projects Chairman Representative Claude Bautista of the Lone District of Davao Occidental described flagship programs as pivotal in transforming societies, shaping our economy, enhancing connectivity and improving overall quality of life of citizens.

Committee on Public Works and Highways Chairman Rep. Romeo Momo of the1st District of Surigao del Sur, citing studies, explained how every P1 spent in infrastructure results in P2 worth of private sector construction in factories, housing, commercial establishment, power plants and so on.

Momo went on further to mention the studies’ finding that every P100 million of investment in construction creates about 230,000 jobs in the entire economy, and generates about P47 million additional household income.

“About P130 trillion worth of construction businesses in the Philippines stands to be generated from a well-structured 30-year national infrastructure program.”


“Since these focal projects will have immediate, extensive, deep and lasting impact on improving the lives of Filipinos and facilitating business activities nationwide, about P130 trillion worth of construction businesses in the Philippines stands to be generated from a well-structured 30-year national infrastructure program,” the legislator estimated.


Bautista and Momo are among the authors of House Bill (HB) 8078, which provides for a 30-year national infrastructure program covering the sectors of transport and logistics, energy, water resource, ICT, social infrastructure, agri-fisheries modernization and food logistics.


The DPWH under the leadership of Secretary Manuel Bonoan is focused on carrying out the implementation of its core programs, especially the 58 flagship projects estimated to cost P1.85 trillion.

 Of the 58 DPWH flagship projects, one is completed, 21 are ongoing while 11 projects are in the pre-construction stages.
