ILOILO CITY’S BIKE PROGRAM WINS GALING POOK AWARD

“I-BIKE” A Program Promoting the Development of the Iloilo City Bike Culture won the Galing Pook Award 2022 during the recognition rites at Malacañang Palace.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. gave the Plaque honoring the Top 10 outstanding Local Government Units in the country.

“Galing Pook is about good governance and projects worthy of emulation by other local government units. This will cap the awards we have been receiving. Congratulations to all the Ilonggo community. This is for you!” Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed.

Treñas commended the City Government personnel, partners and stakeholders in supporting and strengthening the inclusive bike initiative. 

The program enhances bike lane networks which improved the connectivity of establishments, and city biking culture being promoted as the Bike Capital of the Philippines.

The mayor presented to the panel of judges and shared about the bike events doubling in early 2022, bike community being involved with active participation; various arts, culture and heritage bike tours, women cyclists prowess, and Iloilo Bike Festival which proved that it is safe to tour around the city. 

The additional citation to the city’s growing reputation as a cycling haven hopes to attract more visitors to enjoy and experience the many attractions and things to do in the metropolis.

This year’s awards is co-presented by the Galing Pook Foundation, with SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and Department of the Interior and Local Government – Local Government Academy.
