The sale of the Divisoria Public Market was transparent and completely aboveboard, with the proceeds from the sale of the Manila landmark used to fund the city’s COVID-19 response.
This is according to Aksyon Demokratiko presidential candidate Isko Moreno, who on Monday told reporters in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental that details of the P1.4 billion deal can be obtained from records of Manila City Hall.
Moreno’s people-first pandemic response was recently praised by Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, who said Moreno is the only presidential candidate to have proven his ability to manage a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Wala naman tayong itinatago diyan. Dumaan iyan sa tamang proseso at inaprubahan ng konseho,” stressed the local chief executive.
The funds from the sale were used to fund the Manila LGU’s COVID-19 response and other projects, specifically to purchase life-saving drugs and equipment, construct hospitals, and build decent shelters for informal settlers, shared the 47-year-old Manila mayor who grew up in the slums of Tondo.
“We are happy nakagawa kami ng paraan, nakapagpatayo ng Baseco community, ng hospital sa Baseco, naka-chicha (food) ka, nakabili ng gamot, ng mga medical equipment,” explained Moreno, who told reporters he has consistently prioritized the provision of aid or “ayuda” for underprivileged Filipinos.
“Again, with that kind of attitude, ‘yung ganung abilidad ay patuloy kong gagawin maaring mangyari kung papalarin ako na maging pangulo ng bansa. Gagawin natin, maghahanap tayo ng paraan paano itawid sa krisis ang tao. More than anything else it is always about the people, tao muna.”

“Sino sa mga kandidato ang nagpagawa ng mga testing facilities para sa Covid, pinakamarami? Si Isko lamang. Sino ang nagpabakuna ng milyong-milyong Pilipino sa Lungsod ng Maynila kahit saan ka manggaling? Si Isko lamang. Sino ang nagpakain ng daang libong pamilya, nagbigay ng ayuda para lahat makakain sa Lungsod ng Maynila? Si Isko lamang,” said Recto.
