ISKO MORENO TO TURN VISAYAS INTO ECONOMIC HUB

Aksyon Demokratiko presidential bet Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso promised to strengthen local infrastructure to empower the Visayan economy.

In an interview after meeting with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Domagoso said building new infrastructure such as bridges, road networks, and railways can lead to the emergence of new economic hubs outside Luzon.

Moreno said he will support the construction of infrastructure to strengthen tourism, one of the most important industries in the Visayas.

“Sa akin, sa tingin ko, pag iyon ang nangyari at naging sentro ng susunod na administrasyon na pagkabit-kabitin ang Visayas, di na Luzon na lamang ang ating economic center. Pati Visayas, economic center,” he said.

Domagoso said he will continue plans by previous administrations to empower local trade and commerce by connecting the major islands of the Visayas through “bridges over water.”

“Kanina, nung pag-iikot-ikot ko, napagtanto-tanto ko lang: itong ginagawang tulay dito sa Cordova, just imagine if we can create (bridges) wherein Bohol and Cebu are being connected and Negros and Santander are being connected,” he said.

“The islands of the Visayas are being connected by bridges, which is hindi siya rocket science, just so you know. It’s a matter of priority ng national government or dedication,” he added.

He said the next administration should not set the tourism sector aside, even in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, since the country’s economy is heavily dependent on this industry.

“Yung manok na nangingitlog ng ginto, bibitaminahan mo. Hindi mo puputulin ang ulo. Aalagaan ko,” Moreno said.
