JOEY LINA JOINS ANG KOMADRONA PARTY-LIST

Former Senator Joey Lina, principal author of the Philippine Midwifery Act of 1992 (RA 7392), was named first nominee of the newly-formed Ang Komadrona Party-list.

Lina, also a former DILG Secretary and Laguna Governor, accepted the opportunity to continue his long and productive years in government service as a nominee for a party-list dedicated to help improve the state of midwifery in the country in line with global standards aimed at reducing maternal and infant deaths.

“Tayo po ang pangunahing may akda ng Philippine Midwifery Law. Halos 30 years ago na po ang batas na iyan. Marami na po ang nagbago at patuloy na nagbabago. Kailangan ituloy natin ang laban para sa kapakanan ng ating mga midwife, at sa kalusugan ng mga nanay at bata,” said Lina.

“We commit to protect the rights and promote the welfare of all midwives in the country.”

“Together with the leaders and members of Ang Komadrona Party-list, we commit to protect the rights and promote the welfare of all midwives in the country, as well as to help the nation respond to the ongoing health crisis, among other issues and concerns,” added Lina.

Ang Komadrona Party-list was formed to strengthen the vital role of midwives in the Philippine health system, especially in the promotion of maternal and child healthcare.

“Ang Komadrona Party-list was formed to strengthen the vital role of midwives in the Philippine health system.”

The formation of Ang Komadrona Party-list and the filing of its certificate of candidacy is especially significant and meaningful as it coincides with this year’s celebration of National Midwifery Week with the theme, “Midwives are truly worth investing for.”

The other nominees of the party-list are Cecilia B. Santos, Elizabeth M. Dumaran, Janette Y. Cabrera, Salma S. Mala, and Hannibal V. Angus.
