LACSON LEADS FIGHT VS PLASTIC POLLUTION IN NEGOCC

Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson called for systematic change and a rethinking of how people produce, consume, and manage plastics, in line with the 33rd Provincial Environment Month celebration themed “Ending Plastic Pollution”.

Lacson delivered his message at the opening ceremony held at the Capitol Social Hall.

“Plastic pollution is not merely a matter of poor waste disposal, it is a crisis that affects biodiversity, public health, food systems, and even our climate.”

“Plastic pollution is not merely a matter of poor waste disposal, it is a crisis that affects biodiversity, public health, food systems, and even our climate,” the governor said.

He also emphasized that ending plastic pollution requires more than good intentions—it demands the courage to shift from convenience to responsibility.

Lacson further called for strengthened collaboration among local government units (LGUs), educational institutions, civic groups, and private sector partners to implement stricter environmental policies, promote sustainable alternatives, and incentivize innovative solutions.

“Let us cultivate a culture where every Negrense understands that protecting the environment is not someone else’s job – it is our shared duty.”

“Most importantly, let us cultivate a culture where every Negrense understands that protecting the environment is not someone else’s job – it is our shared duty,” he added.

The activity started with a Thanksgiving Mass, followed by a short program and the first-ever KapitAlam Environmental Quiz Bowl (Brgy. Kapitolyo Edition).

Negros Occidental Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz also expressed his full support for the province’s environmental protection advocacy and its impactful initiatives aimed at preserving the environment.

DENR-PENRO Negros Occidental Head Joan Nathaniel Gerangaya also joined the opening program, along with representatives from other partner agencies.

The activity was spearheaded by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), led by Atty. Julie Ann Bedrio, who also called for continued support for Environment Month activities in collaboration with the local government units of Negros Occidental.

In addition to tree planting, mangrove growing, and cleanup drives, more activities are scheduled across various LGUs as part of the localized Environment Month celebration.
