LEE URGES VOTERS: DEMAND MORE FROM GOVERNMENT

Voters should be more discerning and more demanding when voting for government officials if we want the country to change for the better.

This according to AGRI Party-list Rep. Wilbert T. Lee, who in a radio interview a week before the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) said “panahon na para tayo’y magbago; hindi tayo dapat kuntento.”

The former businessman said the public should not just be content with getting the bare minimum service and should expect more from the government.

“Sa aking pag-iikot, laging sinasabi nila, ‘mabuti na nga may dumating pang ayuda, mabuti na nga binigyan pa ako.’ Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanila, hindi dapat gano’n,” said the lawmaker from Bicol, who was in Cebu to speak at the 1st National Credit Surety Fund Cooperative Congress and to meet with transport groups in the city.

“Dapat maging demanding na kayo. Dahil ang gobyerno, nandiyan para sa inyo. [Ang] pera ng gobyerno [ay] pera ninyo.”

The former businessman said the public should not just be content with getting the bare minimum service and should expect more from the government.

According to Lee, “the word is demanding. Hindi pwedeng ‘okay na kayo, okay na kami, pasalamat na nga ako na nabigyan pa ako, pasalamat na nga ako nahatian pa ako, okay lang magnakaw basta mabigyan ka.'”

“Dapat baguhin na natin ‘yong gano’ng kultura at gano’ng sistema para maging Winner Tayo Lahat.”

“Masyado kasing mababait ang mga Pilipino. Masyadong mabait, masyadong mapagtiis, masyadong mapagpasensiya. Lagi kong sinasabi, panahon na para tayo’y magbago” he added.

The BSKE, originally scheduled to be held on December 5, 2022, will push through on Monday, October 30.

More than 1.4 million candidates are vying for 672,432 positions in the country’s 42,001 barangays.
