MMDA BAGS 2ND FOI COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) won for the second consecutive year the Commitment to Excellence Award, under the Agency Category, for being the Freedom of Information Champion Hall of Famer, conferred by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

The FOI Hall of Fame – Commitment to Excellence Award is given to recipients of the FOI Champion Hall of Fame Award in the previous years to recognize its consistent commitment to excellence in public service in the implementation of the FOI Program.

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes expressed his gratitude to the FOI Project Management Office for the prestigious recognition.

“On behalf of the MMDA, I sincerely expressed my gratitude to the FOI Project Management Office for continuously recognizing our agency as one of the awardees in the 2022 FOI Awards under the FOI Commitment to Excellence Award-Agency Category,” Artes said.

“Thank you very much for guiding us in facilitating the FOI program towards the promotion of transparency and accountability in government service.”

Further, the traffic head praised the agency’s FOI Committee for the successful implementation of the FOI Program.

“Let me also convey my utmost appreciation to the MMDA-FOI Committee for their hard work and perseverance that paved the way for the successful FOI implementation in our agency,” he said.

Artes also assured that the agency will continue to advocate transparency as a key to better governance.

The MMDA was also awarded as a top performing and requested agency for the fifth consecutive year, with 90% closed transactions.

Since 2017, the MMDA have been implementing Executive Order No. 2 which operationalizes the Constitutional mandate of the People’s Right to Information with an aim to empower citizens to directly ask the government for valuable information.

The FOI Awards is an annual event which aims to recognize the remarkable contributions of government offices in the executive branch, including government-owned and controlled corporations, state universities and colleges, and local water districts, to the development and progress of the FOI program.
