MMDA, DTI CHECK MAKATI ESTABLISHMENTS FOR SAFETY

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted new round of inspection of some establishments in Makati City to check their compliance to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) guidelines under Alert Level 4.

MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos, with DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez and Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, inspected alfresco dine-in services at the Rockwell Center.

“I would like to congratulate Makati and Rockwell President Nestor Padilla as they are trying their best to comply with the safety protocols to protect their customers amid the pandemic,” Abalos said.

For her part, Binay mentioned that as far as Rockwell is concerned, it is ready to accommodate 30 percent of their customers.

“In this city, we mean business.”

“We also conduct random checks for those establishments who have failed to comply with the IATF guidelines. In this city, we mean business,” the lady mayor stressed.

Under Alert Level 4, outdoor or alfresco dine-in services in restaurants are allowed to operate at 30% capacity, regardless of customers’ vaccination status while indoor dine-in services may be allowed at 10 percent capacity, only for fully vaccinated individuals.

Meanwhile, the traffic chief and Lopez also inspected Anytime Fitness gym located at South Park Plaza, Magallanes, Makati City.

Miguel Gutierrez, co-founder of Anytime Fitness Philippines, appealed to the national government and IAFT to allow them to operate at a 10 percent allowable capacity, similar to the restaurants and personal care services.

“The government is open to study the appeal of gyms and fitness centers.”

The trade chief said the government is open to study the appeal of gyms and fitness centers to allow them to open on the premise that exercise boosts immunity.

“We will study this carefully so that the health and well-being of our kababayans will be protected thru all forms of exercise. The gyms must ensure safe distancing and install air purifiers for additional ventilation,” the trade head stressed, adding that he is satisfied with what Gutierrez has presented to them.
