MMDA JOINS DTI INSPECTION OF AGORA PUBLIC MARKET

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and San Juan City government, inspected the Agora Public Market to monitor compliance with the suggested retail prices (SRP) of basic necessities and prime commodities.

The inspection was led by MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes, MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Procopio Lipana, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora and DTI Assistant Secretary for Consumer Protection Group Ann Claire Cabochan.

Aside from price monitoring, they also checked the weighing scales of vendors.

“We will coordinate with the Metro Manila Council to conduct monitoring of prices in various wet markets in the metropolis,” the traffic chief said during the market visit.

For his part, Zamora said he initiated the market inspection to assure consumers of protection from price irregularities.

Based on the latest price monitoring, the SRP of imported red onions is ₱125 per kilogram, which covers medium and large-sized onions.

Two notices of violation were issued against retailers at Agora Public Market due to failure to comply with the SRP.

Agora is the only public market operating in San Juan.
