MORE BIKE LANE IMPROVEMENTS IN QC – BELMONTE

The Quezon City Government, through the Department of Public Order and Safety – Green Transport Office (DPOS-GTO), has installed bike ramps on footbridges and one underpass along the city’s 93-kilometer bike lane network as part of its efforts to improve Quezon City’s bike facilities.

The QC DPOS-GTO upgraded several grade-separated crossings in QC by installing bike ramps to make bike crossing more convenient along the bike lane network.

There are currently five crossings with newly-installed bike ramps, including the QMC underpass and footbridges along Commonwealth Avenue (Philcoa, UP AIT), Quezon Avenue (NAPWC), and Katipunan Avenue (UP Town Center).

The ongoing project aims to install bike ramps on 40 footbridges along the bike lane network.

The local government will also install more concrete plant box barriers designed to make the bike lanes more attractive, safer, and to serve as an alternative and ‘green’ upgrade to plastic barriers used as bike lane physical separators.

The Quezon City Parks Development and Administration Department plans to place an additional 210 plant box barriers along Commonwealth Avenue.

“Our vision is to make Quezon City bike-friendly and eco-friendly with accessible and safe facilities for bikers and pedestrians, that is why we keep on implementing projects to improve our bike lane network,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

“Biking can help in keeping an active and healthy lifestyle.”

Belmonte also encourages more QCitizens to shift to cycling to promote an eco-friendly mode of transportation. She added that biking can help in keeping an active and healthy lifestyle.

“The second phase of the QC bike lane network is also in the works.”

According to Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo, the second phase of the QC bike lane network is also in the works.

This aims to interconnect the said bike lane network with the first phase to reach more residential and commercial areas.
