MOVING OUT AND IN

For some of us, leaving the place we call home may be inevitable. For others, the need to move to a new place is an essential chapter of life. Nonetheless, moving out and moving in are just some of the phases we go through in adult life. It is both a privilege and the lack thereof.

Aside from the physical work needed to move from one place to another, it also signifies a crucial life lesson. When you leave a place to occupy a new one, we carry with us the things we know we’ll need wherever we go. We then leave those that no longer serve us, those that have no use for us anymore—those that will only add additional weight to what we have to carry.

Moving is a tricky excuse to keep our things in check, that said, ourselves, too. We might wonder how we end having so much baggage. From there, we assess the things we have to leave behind, what we need to get rid of, and what we have to let go of. This is an essential part of moving out and in. You may say it’s like hitting two birds using one stone because doing so will also prepare you for a new environment while keeping the ones you value the most—whether it be a box of shoes, a pile of receipts, or a simple sketch.

Mental preparation is key to seamless moving in/out

Moving out and in requires not only your physical strength. It requires proper planning and coordination. You would also need to stock up on some patience and breathing space because tensions could go high while you are at it. You might question yourself, even if you are doing the right thing. When this happens, just go back to the reason why you thought of moving. Reminding yourself of the whys could offer some calmness and clarity along the way.

Leaving the place that houses memories, our triumphs, and defeats could be emotionally taxing. However, you should see this as a sign that you are ready to explore more about yourself and the world outside your four-cornered husk. Some of us do it out of responsibility. Others do it for independence. These are two of the most adult things one could ever do—to embrace the reality that some moving forward may require us to move out of our niche and into a new place.

Never carry with you the things that no longer serve you—literally and figuratively. There are things we have to let go of to make our journey lighter. When you get to a new place, allow yourself some time to envision how you would like the place to be. Do you want it to feel like a haven? Or would you like to keep things busy around? Whichever you choose, go where you can find peace. After all, our homes are our resting place. They should make us feel comfortable and secure, and when it comes to these two, no price is too high to pay.
