NEA: 15 PROVINCES HAVE NO POWER DUE TO ‘QUINTA’

Several provinces covered by at least 23 electric cooperatives (ECs) have experienced power service interruptions due to the effects of Typhoon “Quinta,” the National Electrification Administration (NEA) said.

This was based on the reports received by the NEA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) as of 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, from the electric cooperatives (ECs) whose coverage areas were placed under tropical cyclone wind signals due to typhoon.

“We appeal to all consumers affected for their patience as our electric cooperatives work to address these outages.”

Reports showed 23 electric co-ops have experienced varying degrees of power interruptions in their respective coverage areas. These include ECs operating in the provinces of Cagayan, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes and Aklan. 

Some ECs particularly those in parts of Batangas and Bicol Region reported total loss of power due to the unavailability of transmission services from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). 

Meanwhile, those ECs operating in Ticao Island, Busuanga, Lubang, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro also experienced total power outages because of severe weather conditions.  

The ECs that reported total power interruptions are the following: 

  • Batangas II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BATELEC II)
  • Marinduque Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MARELCO)
  • Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (OMECO)
  • Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ORMECO) 
  • Lubang Electric Cooperative, Inc. (LUBELCO)
  • Busuanga Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BISELCO)
  • Camarines Sur I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO I) 
  • Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II)
  • Camarines Sur III Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO III) 
  • Camarines Sur IV Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO IV)
  • Ticao Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (TISELCO)   
  • Sorsogon I Electric Cooperative, In c. (SORECO I) 
  • Sorsogon II Electric Cooperative (SORECO II)
  • Albay Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ALECO)

The ECs that reported partial power service interruptions are the following:

  • Cagayan II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CAGELCO II) 
  • First Laguna Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FLECO)
  • Batangas I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BATELEC I) 
  • Quezon I Electric Cooperative, Inc. (QUEZELCO I)
  • Tablas Island Electric Cooperative, Inc. (TIELCO) 
  • Romblon Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ROMELCO)
  • Masbate Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MASELCO) 
  • First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (FICELCO)
  • Aklan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (AKELCO)

Reports showed 23 electric co-ops have experienced varying degrees of power interruptions in their respective coverage areas.

“Our electric cooperatives have already dispatched teams to assess the damage caused by Typhoon ‘Quinta’ to their distribution facilities and to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We appeal to all consumers affected for their patience as our electric cooperatives work to address these outages,” NEA Administrator Edgardo Masongsong said.

The NEA chief also advised the public to stay away from downed power lines to avoid accidents, and to immediately report these to their electric cooperatives.
