NET25’S FOREIGN AFFAIRS COVERAGE FOLLOWS TWO HISTORIC VISITS AND THE DFA’S STAND IN BATANES

News and information network NET25 closely monitored a week on the diplomatic beat that brought two first-ever visits to Manila, a firm DFA statement on the waters off Batanes and consular work for Filipino families as far away as Bavaria.

The network makes a conscious effort to report diplomacy as a story that reaches ordinary Filipinos, because a memorandum signed in Manila ends up in a seafarer’s papers, an embassy claim ends up in a fisherman’s waters, and a consul’s phone call ends up in a grieving household.

The foreign affairs stories on the NET25.com portal from September 22 to October 6, 2026 show how that works.

On the diplomatic front, Malacañang announced Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s state visit from October 5 to 8, the first by a Polish president to the Philippines, with defense, security, trade, investment, agriculture and tourism high on the agenda with President Marcos.

Close behind is the first visit by a Cypriot foreign minister. Dr. Constantinos Kombos arrives on Wednesday, October 7, to meet with DFA Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro on political and economic cooperation, maritime engagement, people-to-people exchanges and consular issues.

Two memoranda are set for signing: one on cooperation in sports and one on the recognition of seafarer certificates under the STCW Convention, which matters to every Filipino seafarer bound for a Cypriot-flagged vessel. More than 8,000 Filipinos live and work in Cyprus.

On the maritime front, the DFA rejected the Chinese embassy’s claim of sovereign rights in waters off Batanes after the Philippine Coast Guard found the research vessel Jia Hai Ke 7 about 37 nautical miles northwest of Itbayat, inside the exclusive economic zone and without the authorization that UNCLOS requires for marine scientific research.

The department pledged to continue defending the country’s sovereign rights, and the PCG tracked the vessel and two China Coast Guard ships out of the zone the following day.

The portal carried the wider picture as well, from the obstructed Ayungin resupply on September 24 to a Chinese J-16 shadowing a Philippine patrol aircraft near Bajo de Masinloc and coast guard ships blocking a Philippine boat off Pag-asa Island.

On other consular-related news, the Department of Migrant Workers is preparing criminal and civil cases against a Milan-based bus operator after a bus overturned in Bavaria, killing two Filipinos and injuring two more, with Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac working with the consuls general in Milan and Frankfurt to secure justice for the victims.

Looking ahead, Way of the Weave: ASEAN Trade Expo 2026 will gather eleven ASEAN member states and partner countries at Okada Manila on November 10 to 12 as a flagship of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship.

Through this coverage, NET25 ensures that foreign affairs is reported not as protocol but as kabuhayan and kaligtasan, the livelihood and safety of Filipinos at home and abroad. This is what makes the diplomatic beat relevant to the OFW family and not only to the policy watcher.

All of these stories are free to read anytime, anywhere on the NET25.com portal and are carried on Mata ng Agila and Mata ng Agila International on Digital Free TV Channel 28 and Analog Free TV Channel 25 as well.

NET25 continues to affirm its role as the “alternative mainstream” in Philippine broadcasting through foreign affairs coverage that is conscious about the Filipinos a treaty eventually touches, whether it’s the seafarer, the fisherman or the family waiting for word from abroad. The media giant follows the country’s diplomacy wherever it leads.
