A new bridge connecting Aurora and Nueva Ecija is now providing better and safer travel to residents and motorists in Nueva Ecija.

Citing a report from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 3 Director Roseller Tolentino, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar announced the completion of the Labi Bridge reconstruction. The bridge is along the Nueva Ecija – Aurora Road.

“Perennial flooding during typhoon season has severely affected the structural integrity of the old Labi Bridge that’s why we had to replace it.”

“Perennial flooding during typhoon season has severely affected the structural integrity of the old Labi Bridge, especially with the damage caused by Typhoons Kabayan, Lando, and Nona in 2015 that’s why we had to replace it,” said Villar.

DPWH Region 3 undertook the construction of the 222.43-meter bridge project with a 143-meter and a 124-meter approach on each side, amounting to P163-million which was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Tolentino also reported that dredging works is also underway to restore the waterway to its original depth and prevent frequent flooding in the province.

“With the opening of the newly-replaced Labi Bridge, we are hoping to provide not just stronger infrastructure but more importantly faster transport of goods and services to aid in the emerging economic activity in the region,” the public works chief announced.
