The Lebanese husband, Nader Essam Assaf, is with Lebanese authorities, while his Syrian wife remains in custody in Damascus.

“We should continue to seek justice for all OFWs who have become victims in foreign lands, not just the high profile cases,” said Castelo.

“We should also ensure compliance and enforcement of all laws, rules, and regulations to protect the rights and welfare of our OFWs,” added Castelo.

“We should likewise engage with foreign governments in order to enter into bilateral agreements that would guarantee the safety and security of our OFWs,” concluded Castelo.
