Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Chief Bato dela Rosa has lauded Pangasinan officials for their successful anti-illegal drug campaign.
“Maganda ang record ng Pangasinan (Pangasinan has a good record). This I monitored when I was PNP (Philippine National Police) chief,” he said before the huge crowd in front of the Capitol Grounds recently.
Dela Rosa reiterated that his effort to stop the drug trade in the country continues inside the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) by separating foreign nationals, who are allegedly drug lords or involved in the illegal drug trade.

“They control more than 50 percent of the drug trade in the country. Tinanggal ko sila sa kanilang brigada. Dati nakahulo sila sa iba’t-ibang gangs o brigada gaya ng Sputnik, Commando, Sigue-Sigue, Batang City Jail. Ginawa silang parang milking cows, sila yong in charge sa supply side. Pagdating dito sa Pilipinas, yong mga local drug players na nasa Bilibid, sila take charge sa distribution sa buong Pilipinas (I removed them from their brigade. Before, they were with different gangs like Sputnik, Commando, Sigue-Sigue, Batang City Jail. They were made milking cows, in charge of the supply side. When the supply arrives in the Philippines, the local drug players inside the Bilibid take charge of the distribution in the whole country),” he said.
Dela Rosa noted that the task given to him by President Rodrigo Duterte is to stop the illegal drug trade inside the NBP.

Meanwhile, the BuCor will request for budget allocation for the construction of an additional prison building or facility that could accommodate about 1,000 inmates to address the problem of congestion at the facility.
“Every year, one new building, gagawin sa ibang prison farms outside of NBP (The new building will be constructed in prison farms outside NBP). That way, Bilibid will be decongested slowly,” he added.
Dela Rosa also expressed his intent to enter the political arena in the next election.
“Ako’y pumapasyal, nagpaparamdam lang na sana pwedeng magserbisyo pa. Kasi gusto ko namang matikman ‘yong ibang trabaho (I am just visiting, indicating my plan if I can still serve because I wanted to do another job),” he said.
“Mula Philippine Military Academy, diretso na ako sa Constabulary, at sa Philippine National Police (PNP), puro giyera at kriminal ang hinarap natin (From the Philippine Military Academy, I went straight to the Constabulary, then to the PNP, where I faced wars and criminals). When I retired, I thought the President will give me a post outside the country as Ambassador. But two weeks after my retirement from the PNP, I was appointed as Ambassador at the Bilibid,” he added.
