OVER 2,492 ‘YOLANDA’ HOUSES TURNED-OVER IN ILOILO – NOGRALES

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles led national and local officials in the 12th virtual turn over ceremony of Typhoon Yolanda housing units, this time in Iloilo last November 6, 2020, under the auspices of the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project in Region 6.

Nograles thanked LGU and agency partners for their cooperation and sense of urgency in ensuring the timely completion of this important legacy project of the Duterte administration.

As of October 2020, out of a planned 135,772 housing units for Region 6, 88,804 units have already been completed, with the remaining 46,968 units undergoing construction.

“We give full praise to LGU officials led by Mayor Melina Requinto together will all her local officers and staff. This Yolanda Housing Project at the Estancia Residences, Estancia Villas, and Estancia People’s Village is a testament to the cooperation of stakeholders and beneficiaries alike despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Malacañang official said.

“Noteworthy also is the leadership of NHA General Manager Marcelino Jun Escalada, Regional Manager Engr. Antonio Del Rosario and District Manager Fe Jamoyot who all showed focus and determination in seeing the project through until its completion. They deserve all the congratulations for their selfless public service.”

According to NHA figures, as of October 2020, out of a planned 135,772 housing units for Region 6, 88,804 units have already been completed, with the remaining 46,968 units undergoing construction.

“This week marks the 7th year since Typhoon Yolanda struck. It has remained in the public’s consciousness because of the level of destruction it brought, especially for Ilonggos and the people in the region. That’s why this free housing benefit should put a happy and fitting end to years of waiting. The Duterte administration is making good on its promise to help the people of Iloilo,” the Cabinet Secretary remarked.

“We will fulfill all our housing commitment. That’s the promise and commitment of President Duterte, and we are here to make that a reality.”

On the part of Mayor Requinto, she thanked the President, Nograles, and the NHA for “remembering us and for addressing our needs. These houses are a lasting gift to us. The beneficiaries will cherish this and value the government’s assistance for the rest of their lives.” 

Nograles ended his message by assuring the people of Yolanda-affected areas that “We will fulfill all our housing commitment. That’s the promise and commitment of President Duterte, and we are here to make that a reality.
