PBA PARTY-LIST TO NCR LGUS: OK PBA BUBBLE TRAINING

The Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta (PBA) Party-list on Thursday urged the local governments of Metro Manila to issue their guidelines and approval for the bubble training of the teams of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

This, as the PBA Board of Governors on Monday unanimously agreed to resume games for the Governors’ Cup by the first week of February.

All teams of the PBA will be given 10 days of scrimmages before the league resumes the Governor’s Cup.

“We understand that the continuation of the PBA Governor’s Cup would not be possible without the concurrence and approval of our LGUs. And we want the players and coaching staff of the PBA to abide by the health guidelines to be issued, hence we look forward to the conditions to be set by our local governments so scrimmages can resume,” PBA Party-list spokesperson Atty. Migs Nograles said.

“Basketball is the national pastime of Filipinos, and with the pandemic entering its second year, we need some sort of distraction to help with our mental health, so we really do hope the PBA games would resume soon,” she added.

All teams of the PBA will be given 10 days of scrimmages before the league resumes the Governor’s Cup.

Pasig City had earlier signified the PBA could hold the Governors’ Cup back at the Ynares Sports Arena if it chooses.

Scheduled to resume last January 5, the basketball league had suspended the Governor’s Cup indefinitely because of rising COVID-19 cases due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus.

Last December, the PBA welcomed back live audiences for the first time in almost two years.

The Games and Amusements Board already recommended the resumption of the conference to the Inter-Agency Task Force.
