PEACE PARTY-LIST TO DISTRIBUTE LEARNING MATERIALS

A group advocating for quality education will be distributing learning materials in support of the Department of Education’s Brigada Pagbasa.

“The Brigada Pagbasa is a worthwhile initiative by the DepEd, and we wish to complement their efforts to instill a love of learning and reading in our children by also distributing educational materials as well as Christian children’s books,” Marie Paz T. Abante, president of the Philippine Educators Alliance for Community Empowerment (PEACE) Party-list, said.

The Brigada Pagbasa, a new component of the Brigada Eskwela that was launched this month, is an after-school reading program to help children read and become functionally literate.

The distribution would start after the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region.

The Brigada Pagbasa, a new component of the Brigada Eskwela that was launched this month, is an after-school reading program to help children read and become functionally literate.

According to DepEd, the program “will serve as a platform to synergize efforts and resources to address education-related challenges especially on literacy and numeracy. It will also create opportunities for all stakeholders to contribute possible solutions to the current gaps in the country’s education system, especially in equipping the learners with 21st century skills.”

Abante lauded the initiative, which she noted could be “a cost-effective way to address a long-standing issue that exacerbates the education crisis.”

The distribution would start after the enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region.

“Much of our learning outcomes depend on children being able to comprehend what they read. If we are able to ensure that this program properly identifies the targets that need extra support, it could help us make headway in addressing the ongoing crisis,” she added.

Abante also urged other groups to support the Brigada Pagbasa.

“We will be making a similar call to the churches we are affiliated with so that this project can take on a nationwide scope,” the long-time educator said.
