PHILIPPINE-KOREAN YOUTH FORUM RETURNS BETTER, BOLDER ON ITS 3RD YEAR

Writer:     Mai Mercado

Over the years, the Philippines, South Korea, and the world have become increasingly interconnected. Yet, barriers remain—language, internet access, and global politics—hindering our journey toward a more sustainable future.

Fret not, however. To foster lasting relationships and knowledge exchanges, the UP Arirang returns stronger with the 3rd Philippine-Korean Youth Forum (PKYF)!

Revolving around the theme “CROSSOVER: Reimagining and Embracing the Future”, the 3rd PKYF comes in full circle with the story that the past two installments built.

From acknowledging the barriers in 2021 and building a bridge of connection in 2022, this 2023, PKYF aims to “cross over the bridge” and close the gaps through endless collaboration between Filipino and Korean youth in cultural and educational activities.

The PKYF has four main tracks: (1) Culture & Tourism, (2) Economy & Trade, (3) Arts & Media, and (4) Governance & Diplomacy. Each track will explore growing social phenomena and issues concerning the Philippines and South Korea.

On Wednesdays and Fridays in July, the PKYF will conduct virtual keynote lectures, interactive workshops, and plenary sessions led by Filipino and Korean scholars, industry practitioners, and even members of the youth.

The keynote lectures will bring the real-life experiences of the speakers to the youth delegates about their chosen topics. Meanwhile, the interactive workshops will strengthen the delegates’ leadership qualities, increase their cross-cultural understanding, and cultivate their critical thinking and confident self-expression. Lastly, the collaborative plenary sessions will engage the delegates with the speakers to discuss and critique their workshop outputs.
