PIMENTEL TO ALBAYALDE: RESOLVE KILLINGS TO AVOID CA PROBE

Senator Koko Pimentel III advised Philippine National Police chief General Oscar Albayalde to resolve the rampant killings in the country or be grilled about his competence during hearings by the Commission on Appointments (CA).

Albayalde recently mentioned that he is willing to accept a Cabinet position if President Rodrigo Duterte, offers him a post.

“In that way he will not have to face questions on competence during his CA hearings.”

“Ang advise ko kay General Albayalde – resolve the issues regarding rampant killings all over our country in that way he will not have to face questions on competence during his CA hearings,” Pimentel said.

The veteran legislator expressed his alarm over the rampant killings in the country. The seasoned lawmaker also urged the PNP to go all out against guns-for-hire and arrest them.

“The PNP should go all out against those guns-for-hire.”

“The PNP should go all out against those guns-for-hire but of course observe due process of law,” the senator added.

“The consent of the CA is required for the appointment of the heads of the executive departments and other high positions.” he stressed.

The CA is a constitutional body under the 1987 Constitution. It is an independent body separate and distinct from the Legislature, although its membership is confined to members of Congress.
