PROTECT YOUR HEART THIS LOVE MONTH – ANAKALUSUGAN

AnaKalusugan Party-list is urging Filipinos to practice self-care and prioritize heart health this love month.

“Panawagan po natin sa ating mga kababayan, let us be mindful of our health at alagaan natin ang ating mga puso ngayong buwan ng pag-ibig,” AnaKalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray T. Reyes said.

Reyes is urging the public to eat healthy and refrain from eating ultra-processed food products (UPPs) to protect their hearts.

Reyes cited data from the Philippine Statistics Authority which showed ischemic heart disease, which leads to heart attack, as the number one cause of death in the country, with more than 65,000 cases from January to July 2023.

“Let us show self-love, prioritize heart health, and consider healthier alternatives whenever possible,” the lawmaker said.

He urged the public to eat healthy and refrain from eating ultra-processed food products (UPPs) to protect their hearts.

“We need to cut down our consumption of UPPs to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases,” Reyes said.

Ultra-processed food products are food that contain preservatives, emulsifiers, and artificial sweeteners, colors and flavors.

These include breakfast cereals, soft drinks, ice cream, hotdogs, corned beef, meatloaf, sausages and instant noodles.

“If we can, we should strive to replace UPPs with healthier choices like fresh fruits and vegetables,” Reyes said.
