QUIRINO BAGS 6TH SEAL OF GOOD LOCAL GOVERNANCE

Quirino Governor Dax Cua expressed his gratitude that the province once again attained the Department of Interior and Local Government’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award.

“We are grateful for the recognition of our efforts to make the provincial government responsive to the needs of our people. The SGLG is a reflection of our drive to make Quirino province a leading light in local governance and how it can be used to make meaningful change in the lives of the people,” Cua said.

Cua targeted the establishment of 400 WiFi towers in Quirino province in 3 years, as he emphasized how having sound local internet infrastructure could help provide education and employment opportunities to constituents.

The province has now attained the SGLG for six years running.

Cua acknowledged the greater difficulty of LGUs being responsive amid a pandemic.

“There are lots of challenges to being responsive to the people’s needs during a pandemic. Hindi naman tumitigil ang pangangailangan nila, hindi rin naghihintay ang mga sakuna gaya ng bagyo na nagpapalala ng sitwasyon,” the governor said.

He said, however, that the pandemic had also exposed areas that LGUs need to seriously address to be able to serve their constituencies.

LGUs should heavily invest in tools that help them be more adaptable to any situation, Cua, who also serves as president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, added.

“Definitely we should invest in digitalizing our processes. Nakita natin kung paano tayo maaaring malumpo sa operations natin dahil hindi pa tayo nag-upgrade. Ang daming serbisyo na pwedeng online na lang, mas ligtas para sa mga kababayan natin, at menos pa sa gastos nila sa pamasahe at oras,” said Cua.

The governor has identified investment in information technology as a key component of his administration.
