REVISED CHARTER OF BAGUIO CITY GETS HOUSE NOD – GO

With 231 affirmative votes, the House of Representatives unanimously approved on third and final reading House Bill 8882 which would revise the Charter of Baguio City.

The measure, authored by Baguio City Representative Mark Go seeks to

a) ensure effective implementation of the city government’s land use development plan,

b) settle the boundary dispute of the city with the adjoining Municipality of Tuba, Benguet,

c) address the problem in the disposition of alienable and disposable public lands with the Baguio townsite reservation, and

d) create a more responsive taxation system and revenue-generating projects.

“The bill seeks to create a more responsive taxation system and revenue generating projects.”

“[The approval of the bill seeks] to achieve effectiveness and efficiency in local governance and promote the general welfare of the people of Baguio City,” said Go, in his explanatory note of HB 1900, which was eventually substituted by HB 8882.

Legislators likewise approved on final reading HB 8842, renaming the Cagayan de Oro Convention Center located at Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City as the Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. International Convention Center.

The bill garnered 231 affirmative votes without negative votes and abstentions.
