Senator Joel Villanueva welcomed the Senate ratification of the bicameral conference committee report on the bill ensuring the health of mothers and children starting from the first 1,000 days of pregnancy.

“We laud the Senate bicam report ratification on the proposed Healthy Nanay and Bulilit Act. This will help more than 3.8 million stunted and over 800,000 underweight children in the country,” the seasoned legislator said.

The veteran lawmaker underscored that the measure will provide nutritional supplements and vitamins to pregnant women and babies from poor families annually and vaccination for babies against hepatitis B, polio, measles, among others.

The bill also strengthens the enforcement of Executive Order No. 51, or the Milk Code, and Republic Act No. 10028, or the “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009,” which promote optimal infant and young child feeding and maternity protection.

“We congratulate our co-authors in both Houses for actively pushing for the passage of this very important measure which we dedicate to our mothers and children who are the future pillars of our nation,” the senator said.
