SIPALAY CITY SUPPORTS GUION IN PARALYMPIC BID

Negrense powerlifter Achelle Guion has received well wishes from her hometown of Sipalay City in Negros Occidental as she competes in the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan from August 24 to September 5.

“The City of Sipalay would like to express its utmost support to our very own Achelle Guion. We encourage everyone to support and pray for Achelle’s safety and success in the para powerlifting event,” the city government headed by Mayor Maria Gina Lizares said.

The 49-year-old veteran powerlifter hails from Barangay San Jose in the southern Negros City but now resides in Cainta, Rizal.

Guion will see action in the women’s -45kg. division finals on August 26 at 3:30 p.m. Philippine time.

She is among the six members of the Philippine Paralympic Team, along with Ernie Gawilan and Gary Bejino (para-swimming), Allain Ganapin (para-taekwondo), Jeanette Aceveda, and Jerrold Mangliwan (para-athletics).

During her debut in the 2012 London Games, she finished sixth out of nine powerlifters.

She also competed in the 2014 Asian Para Games in Incheon and the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, where she both bagged silver medals, as well as in the 2017 World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico City.
