‘SIRAK KABATAAN’ TO TRANSFORM SAMAR YOUTH LEADERS

Samar 2nd District Representative Sharee Ann Tan is optimistic that more youth leaders will take part in addressing different social issues with the formation of a new youth movement.

Dubbed “Sirak Kabataan,” the group seeks to transform the youth of Samar into healthy, responsible, and participative members of society to lead in the promotion of peace and social justice in their respective communities.

“We should support Sirak Kabataan.”

“A fresh and better Samar is within reach if we only let our young people in Samar reach their potential by shining brighter. We should support Sirak Kabataan,” Tan said.

Sirak is the local term for sunshine while Kabataan is the Filipino term for youth.

Before the formal launch of the movement on May 11 in Catbalogan City, the legislator has organized series of workshops for the youth with resource speakers from the Sangguniang Kabataan, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine Army, Samar State University, Samar police provincial office, and Department of Trade and Industry.

“We are gaining support from non-government organizations based in Samar.”

“As we are working towards the completion of the conceptual framework for Sirak Kabataan, our technical working group is also growing. We are gaining support from non-government organizations based in Samar,” the legislator added.

Before the launch of the new movement, the lawmaker has consulted different youth leaders in the province to ensure that every sector and all issues of the youth will be covered by the initiative.

Conceptualized in 2019, Sirak Kabataan is a non-profit group of youth leaders and youth organizations integrated into one council.

The purpose is to develop the young people’s full potential for them to become powerful partners in shaping the future of the province.

This will be done through a series of workshops and discussions.
