TEEN PREGNANCY PREVENTION BILL GETS HOUSE OK

The House of Representatives approved on second reading House Bill 8910 or the proposed “Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Act.”

It would provide for a national policy in preventing adolescent pregnancies and institutionalize social protection for adolescent parents.

An Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Inter-Agency Council will serve as a policy-making body.

Among its salient provisions is the establishment of an Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Inter-Agency Council that would serve as a policy-making body tasked to formulate and implement family-oriented, adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health programs.

These programs would center on the prevention, counseling, and post-delivery care of adolescent pregnancy.


Also passed on second reading is HB 8925 which would require the proper and immediate burial of Muslim cadavers in accordance with Islamic rites.

The bill states that the person who performed the burial rites or the nearest kin of the deceased would be given 30 days from the date of burial to report to the local health authority, who would certify the cause of death.
