TF YOLANDA GIVES FREE HOUSES IN SAMAR, BILIRAN

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, in coordination with the National Housing Authority and local government officials, led the turnover of titled houses and lots to family beneficiaries in  Guiuan, Eastern Samar last November 8, 2021, as part of the 8th year remembrance since Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the Visayas.

“As we commemorate eight years since Typhoon Yolanda, we now come full circle with the near-completion of the free housing units for survivors in different areas in Regions 6, 7, and 8 as well as nearby provinces affected by the calamity,” Nograles stated.

Since assuming the Chairmanship of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Unified Implementation and Monitoring of Rehabilitation and Recovery Projects and Programs in Yolanda-affected Areas, Nograles has led and supervised the turnover of 87,640 housing units to LGU-beneficiaries in the so-called Yolanda corridor.

The Malacañang official mentioned the successive turnovers of 989 houses at Jade Crowne Meadows, Caibiran, Biliran, and 1,715 additional units at Green Park 1 and 2, Basey, Samar under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project of NHA Region 8.

“The lot titles for Eastwind Residences are long-overdue benefits to those who have waited years for government assistance. The 194 recipients of titled houses and lots can now look forward to a better future for their families,” the Cabinet Secretary said.

Nograles thanked Guiuan Mayor Annaliza Kwan, Caibiran Mayor Rhodessa Evita, Basey Mayor Luz Chu-Ponferrada for their cooperation in the prompt implementation of the housing assistance programs, and for ensuring the timely distribution of the units in their areas. 

He likewise expressed gratitude to the NHA under the leadership of General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr., together with Regional Manager Engr. Dodong Antiniero and officers and staff of NHA Region 8 because they overcame logistical and construction challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 

Since assuming the Chairmanship of the Inter-agency Task Force for the Unified Implementation and Monitoring of Rehabilitation and Recovery Projects and Programs in Yolanda-affected Areas, Nograles has led and supervised the turnover of 87,640 housing units to LGU-beneficiaries in the so-called Yolanda corridor.

The areas and their corresponding number of houses are as follows: Eastern Visayas (28,894 units); Western Visayas (51,727 units); Central Visayas (6,721 units) and Bicol region (298 units).

“We will complete all our targets before the term of President Duterte ends. That’s our commitment. We want to give closure to Yolanda and offer hope to affected families, that’s why we have prioritized these gifts of housing and livelihood,” the Task Force head explained.
