VILLAR MARKS WOMEN’S MONTH WITH GARDENING EVENT

Through the cultivation of vegetables, Senator Cynthia Villar led the celebration of Women’s Month in her hometown of Las Piñas City.

The chairperson of the Senate committee on Agriculture and Food was joined by the officers and members of Kapisanan ng mga Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) of Barangay Pilar, and the city’s officers of various homeowners associations and senior citizens groups, among others.

The gardening event, entitled “Wastong Pagtatanim ng Gulay Para sa Mga Ilaw ng Tahanan,” was hosted by the veteran legislator in an open space at the Camella Homes Classic in Barangay Pilar.

It was held together with the seasoned lawmaker’s training partner on urban gardening, Melanie Cruz, Technical Training Specialist of East West Seeds Foundation.

At least 100 women participated in the hands-on and lecture activity to boost food production.

Topics included health and nutrition, rights of children, and budget management.

In her speech, the lady senator cited the need for everyone to find ways to lower our daily expenses with the continuing spikes in oil prices.

“Planting vegetables and maintaining community gardens are ways to save on our expenses while giving nutritious foods to our loved ones.”

She related that March is celebrated as Women’s Month in order to acknowledge the important role of women in a family and their significant contributions to nation-building.

“Tinatawag tayong mga ilaw ng tahanan dahil tayo ang nagbibigay ng direksyong sa ating mga anak, sa ating pamilya, at sa iba pa nating mahal sa buhay,” Villar added.
