VILLAR TOPS SENATORIAL RACE IN CEBU CITY

Reelectionist Senator Cynthia Villar proved to be the most trusted senatorial candidate among Cebu City residents as she got the most number of votes in Monday’s midterm elections.

Official results from the Cebu City Canvassing Center showed Villar topping the senatorial race in the Queen City of the South with 334,294 votes.

The 68-year-old Villar, although running under the Nacionalista Party, was among the senatorial candidates endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Five other senatorial aspirants endorsed by the President also made it to the top 12.

Making it to top 12 are former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, former senator Pia Cayetano, former Philippine National Police Chief Bato dela Rosa, reelectionist Senator Koko Pimentel III, and former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino.

Six senatorial aspirants endorsed by the President made it to the top 12.

Go came second to Villar with 319,370 votes, followed by Cayetano with 311,031, and Dela Rosa with 278,463 votes.

Reelectionist Senator Sonny Angara meanwhile got 271,239 votes for fifth place, while Sergio Osmeña III, who is making another bid for a Senate seat, came in sixth after getting 270,342 votes from his fellow Cebuanos.

Independent reelectionist Senator Grace Poe took the seventh spot with 269,179 votes, followed by Koko Pimentel at eighth with 237,173, and Tolentino at ninth with 231,201 votes.

Completing the top 12 were Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos (183,692 votes), action star and former senator Lito Lapid (165,145 votes) and Bam Aquino (164,313 votes).

Bam Aquino was the only candidate from the Liberal Party who made it to the top 12.

Senator Nancy Binay garnered 159,948 votes to land at 13th spot, fellow Senator JV Ejercito got 149,752 to settle at 14th spot, while Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu settled at 15th with 130,254 votes.

Aquino was the only candidate from the Liberal Party who made it to the top 12 in Cebu City as former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas only came in No. 16 with 121,019 votes.
