The proposed construction of a new Bulacan airport is great news and a “win-win” for both Bulacan and Metro Manila residents said Quezon City 2nd District Rep. Winnie Castelo, Chair of the House Committee on Metro Manila Development.

Castelo issued the statement after it was recently announced that construction of the new Bulacan airport is expected to begin once government holds a Swiss challenge by the first quarter of 2019.

The P735.6 billion New Manila International Airport project being proposed by San Miguel Corporation is expected to directly and indirectly generate 1.8 million jobs by 2025.

“Hopefully, this and other regional development-oriented projects in the pipeline will all proceed, as Metro Manila needs to be decongested not just of vehicles but also of people.”

“These are plenty of jobs and livelihood opportunities that will not only benefit the residents of Bulacan but the residents of nearby Metro Manila as well,” said Castelo, who will be again running for Quezon City councilor in the May elections. Castelo was Quezon City councilor for four terms from 1995-2001 and again from 2004-2010.

“In addition to the employment and business that will be generated during the construction and during the operation of this world-class infrastructure project, the diversion of flights and passengers from the airports in the capital to the province of Bulacan will have an impact on easing the worsening traffic congestion in the metro,” added Castelo.
